VMDeployer 1.9 Released: More Stable and More User Friendly

After releasing 1.8, I became extremely busy with other projects. But I still use the software frequently, in other word, “eat my own dog food.” As result, I found a few bugs here and there and things to improve.

Today I couldn’t use the Web Client due to flash crash. After trying different ways to roll back, I could not get the workarounds work. Then I started to use the VMDeployer 1.8 for virtual machine management, and found it really helpful and fast too. That also reminded me to have a new release as soon as possible.

HTML5 App

Here are a quick summary of what’s been changed, mostly with the newly added datastore in 1.8:

1. Progress bar for upload and downloading files to and from datastore. Functionality wise, nothing changes, but you will feel the software more user friendly – at least it shows something happening while waiting for the operations to finish.
2. New editing feature with which you can edit any file in the datstore without downloading, editing, and finally uploadign it. Still nothing big, but the convenience can speak for itself. Just think about editing the vmx files as you would eiditng a local file.
3. New order of the buttons so that users may find more intuitive.
4. Keep connection live and enabling re-connection. In early versions, if a connection expires the user can reconnec and deploy new VMs, but cannot use the other two tabs. This fix can help keep the same application without restarting.
